With so many choices out there, it’s hard to know just where to begin. The skin care section at your local drugstore (or your online drugstore) is as full as a used car lot, but with more choices. Moisturizers for dry skin, oily skin, combination skin, extremely dry skin, and extremely oily skin…you get the idea.
Use this guide to help you choose the best moisturizer that will leave you with hydrated, clear, smooth skin.
For dry flaky skin – You’ll want a super rich cream that will quench your thirsty face. Try a cream with glycolic acid (to get rid of flakiness) and glycerin to prevent further flaking. Use this cream every morning and night for best results.
For acne-ridden skin – Clogged pores can get unclogged with the help of some salicylic acid. Don’t get anything too rich and creamy or you may end up with extra oil on your skin. Stick with something light and non-greasy. If you’re applying a topical acne treatment (like Retin-A or Differin) you’ll want to apply the medication first, followed by the moisturizer.
For sun-damaged skin – You’ll want a lotion with hydroquinone to lighten up sun spots. You may also want to try a skin lightening product like White Lily to help eliminate blotchy age spots.
For older skin – A rich anti-wrinkle treatment should do the trick. Try something like Knockout Wrinkles which contains elastins which add more strength to sagging skin and help it tighten up to the clear skin of your youth.
For oily skin – Make sure to choose an oil-free light moisturizer to prevent breakouts. If your skin is oily, it means your body is doing a good job of producing its own moisture, so you’ll only need to moisturize once a day or every other day.
