Feder Secures Democratic Nomination; Touts Momentum and Tide for Change
Feder: "The GOP is on notice; the status quo is not acceptable. The voters are ready for change in 2008"
Judy Feder won a strong victory in last night's Democratic Primary in Virginia's 10th Congressional District and immediately promised to put an end to business as usual in Washington. Feder's primary win comes on the heels of a big fundraising milestone for her campaign. Two weeks ago, Feder crossed the $1 million mark in fundraising four months earlier than in 2006 when she gave Frank Wolf his closest race in 24 years.
"I want to thank all of my supporters and volunteers for making this great primary victory possible, " said Feder. "I also want to thank Mike Turner for his honorable service to our country, his commitment to our community, and his dedication to our party. I'm looking forward to working with him to turn the district blue in November."
The recent wave of special election victories for Democrats in several Republican-held seats across the country is a good indicator of voters' mood for change. Polling by Democracy Corps conducted in Republican-held districts, including Virginia's 10th Congressional District, shows Democrats have significantly expanded their lead over Republican incumbents.1
"The GOP is on notice; the status quo is no longer acceptable. The voters are ready for change in 2008 and I intend to deliver it," said Feder.
Virginia's 10th Congressional District is increasingly trending Democratic. The continued trend of the district has caught the attention of retiring Rep. Tom Davis in the 11th District who listed incumbent Frank Wolf as potentially vulnerable due to a toxic political environment strong challenge from Judy Feder.2
Judy Feder is Professor and former Dean of the Georgetown Public Policy Institute and the 2008 Democratic nominee for Congress in Virginia's 10th District. She is one of the nation's leaders in health policy, with over three decades of experience in Congress, the Executive Branch and as an independent advocate. In 2006, Feder mounted the strongest challenge to Frank Wolf in nearly a quarter century, revealing a growing call for change in the district.
