Most of us associate high blood pressure with age. The older you get, the more likely you are to have high blood pressure. However, high blood pressure or hypertension can happen to children. If this happens to your child, don’t panic. There are many ways to ensure that your child remains healthy and happy.

Take a look at your child’s diet. Children who are overweight are more likely to have high blood pressure. Is there a lot of fat in your child’s diet? How many fruits and vegetables do they eat a day? By cutting out fatty foods, you are not only going to lower your child’s blood pressure, but you will also make them healthier overall. Increasing fresh fruit and vegetables is also a good healthy step forward. Get your kid to snack on an apple or carrot sticks instead of chips and chocolate.

Make sure your child gets all the exercise they need. Speak to their teachers to see what exercise is incorporated into their daily routine at school. Find ways to supplement this in the evenings. Introduce your child to a sport you think they might like. There are usually sports clubs in your area that will not only keep your child fit, but will also help them make an extra circle of friends and learn team values.

Make sure you get your blood pressure checked as well. High blood pressure can be hereditary, so if your child has it there is a chance that you do too. Changing your kids’ diet and lifestyle will no doubt have an effect on yours, but if you need extra help, there are high blood pressure medications such as Cordarone Generic or Generic Benicar that you can take. Don’t forget that by looking after your health, you will also improve the health of your entire family.
